Winning Up & Down the Country
August 16, 2023
Congratulations to Barry Sime on his double win and fastest lap at Croft last weekend.
In Barry's own words...
"It was a very successful weekend at our “home” circuit – well the closest one to us anyway! My dad and I have instructed there since 2004, so a bit of local knowledge helped. Race 1 was pretty straightforward, with the only real Mini opposition (Phil House) dropping out with gearbox failure.
Race 2 was much tougher with the fast Alfa of James Everard keeping me honest. He got by at one point when I got baulked by a backmarker, but I immediately retook the lead into the next corner. Like Nick, I made it a wide Mini on the last lap and helped on for the win. Very enjoyable indeed, after not quite maximising things at Brands and my first double CTCRC winning race weekend, having won one out of two previously."

Congratulations also goto Chris Edmunds and "2BOB" on their first win together.
"Described by the commentators as a “Chris Edmunds’ Battle Royale”, on Saturday, we and “2BOB” won the Bentley Drivers Club classic at Silverstone and achieved a fastest lap for good measure! After qualifying P2, a heavy pre-race downpour gave the Mini a good chance against the likes of Nigel Webb and John Young who qualified 1st in Webb’s Jaguar 3.8. Chris completed his mandatory pit-stop in the 25th minute of the race while a comfortable 15 seconds ahead of the second place Jaguar.
The pit-stop left Chris with a gaining MK2 Jag on his tail as the track dried out resulting in a “down to the last lap” battle ending up with Chris and “2BOB” just 0.8 seconds ahead of the big Jag at the chequered flag."
