Swiftune Down Under
27th October 2024
Nick recently took the long-awaited trip down under for his Australian racing debut, taking part in the WA Historic Touring Car Club event at Wanneroo Raceway and then the VSCC WA Collie Coalfields 500 the following weekend.
Rodney Hansen (Hansen’s Automotive) very kindly loaned Nick his Swiftune Willow Mini replica, aptly named ‘Auswilo’ for the occasion. Over the past year or so we have been working with Rodney on engine developments to suit historic spec racing over in Australia and was excited to see these developments put to the test.
“I was blown away by the Aussie racing community and have been welcomed by the most amazing group of people” said Nick. From being interviewed by local Perth news, even meeting the local MP and of course getting to race against some incredible historic touring cars and drivers.
Weekend one at Wanneroo was jam-packed with racing with a total of 5 races “they like to get their money’s worth of track time, it’s awesome!” Nick was having some great battles with the very rapid Cono Onofaro, finishing first Mini in both races on day one.
Onto Collie Motorplex the following weekend, Nick walked away with the NB under 3ltr win and as well as winning the 2024 mini challenge plus he secured the quickest lap time of the minis for the weekend. Really couldn’t get any better!
“I have to say a massive thank you to Rodney Hansen for giving me the incredible opportunity and all of his and his team’s hard work keeping the car quick for both weekends. A true dream come true!”
